There is no doubt that roads provide the necessary capillarity to access basic services such as healthcare, education, workplaces, and culture, especially in suburban areas. In other words, investing in preserving road heritage is an obvious and pressing necessity.
Thanks to road maintenance, it is expected that public investments will significantly reduce future costs that society would otherwise have to bear. This preventive action also increases the reliability of the service.
The most innovative and socially responsible approach involves hiring routine maintenance services, such as cleaning ditches, drains, and road signs, as well as emergency tasks. These services are contracted out to associative micro-enterprises. Micro-enterprises have better control over their personnel, who are mostly inclusive, employing both men and women.
This helps the development of communities and provides jobs to subsistence farmers, offering greater employment opportunities to those who have not had the chance to develop professionally. These workers need to live near the roads, ensuring their immediate availability in case of emergency and easy access while encouraging them to stay in the places they have always lived.
In summary, if we manage to improve the roads across the country, we employ those most in need, improve communication from city to city, and, last but not least, achieve significant savings in the government budget, which can then be used for other investments.
